About Our Gallery
The way of the artisan is one of controlled passion. Dedication to their
discipline allows the artisan to fuse raw materials and artistic
vision in creating an item of surpassing beauty. At David Hungerford
Goldsmiths our dedication to the time-honored craft of the goldsmith
underlies our vision. We are a gallery specializing in custom one-of-a-kind
handmade designs. We utilize only the finest quality materials such as 18kt
gold and platinum, fine grade diamonds and a variety of select colored
gemstones.
In keeping with our philosophy of jewelry as art, our gallery features
the designs of several jewelry artisans from around the country. In addition
to jewelry, we exhibit the work from artists in Kentucky and the surrounding
region. Primarily this consists of three-dimensional pieces in metal and
stone, as these media have a strong relationship to goldsmithing.
David Hungerford has been a professional goldsmith for 23 years. He has
studied under international master jeweler Yasuki Hiramatsu in Japan, and
with Mary Ann Scherr through the Parsons School of Design in New York. He
has also attended numerous workshops throughout the country including such
diverse topics as mokume-gane, a traditional Japanese metalworking technique,
with Dale Wedig; forging techniques under Jim Wallace, past curator of the
National Ornamental Metals Museum in Memphis, Tennessee; small casting
techniques with J. Fred Woell; and silversmithing under Professor Harry
Furches, head of the Metalsmithing Department, Murray State University,
Murray, Ky.
